Legislative Update
Governor Quinn signs two important pieces of legislation!!!
IMRF Pension Credit Transfer Bill – new - Public Act 97-273
On August 8th Governor Quinn signed HB 3332 into law.
This legislation creates a 60 day opportunity for IMRF employees to transfer up to 10 years of service from a police pension fund into IMRF. The 60 days starts running as of the Governor’s signature on August 8th, 2011. If you wish to transfer service to an IMRF fund you should initiate the process immediately.
Special thanks go to Senator Terry Link who assumed sponsorship of this bill and successfully moved it through the Illinois Senate.
Sworn Affidavit Bill – new - Public Act 97-472
Thanks to the efforts of Representative John D'Amico (D-Chicago) HB 1985 passed both houses made it to Governor Quinn for signature. The Governor signed this bill on Monday August 22nd the new law is effective immediately.
HB 1985 mandates that municipal police agencies (cities and counties) that receive false complaints filed against law enforcement officers forward those cases to the appropriate State's Attorney for review and prosecution.
While current law requires complaints against police officers to be supported by a sworn affidavit many departments do not send cases of false complaint cases for prosecution.
